It is a question most people ask themselves at one point or another in their life. When the authoritative answer is out there all people will rest easy... till then discussion is required. I've found this reference to be one of the better ones on the web. But really maybe the question's answer lies in the definition of the word LIFE.

Updates, and rantings on the subject.
04.27.2000 -
My cousin recently sent this to me, and on some level I think does relate to what the meaning of life is... what do you think?
Take this quiz:
- Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
- Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
- Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
- Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.
- Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
- Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
- List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
- Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
- Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
- Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
- Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
- Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.
Easier? The lesson? The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.
04.04.2000 - I just finished having a debate with some friends about the universe. Which sparked another topic of discussion for the meaning of life. If the universe was created in a big bang, which has pretty much become accepted fact, what will happen when it ends? There are two issues here. First, the sun. It is going to become a red giant star in a few billion years. It will swell in size and ingulf the first three planets (That includes earth!) So will the human race by then have achieved some form of movement among the stars? To help prolong the death of life? Secondly, if the universe started from the big bang, one day will there be a collapse? And all matter will eventually crunch in on itself, maybe to form another big bang. Life anywhere will die. So although none of this will happen in my lifetime, it makes me raise the question of what is the meaning again. I raise a family, become rich, or well known for something, anything I could do means nothing in the long run. I know I am being pessamistic though.
02.06.2000 - The meaning of life is different for everyone and it is hard to put an exact definition on it, not everyone can ever be satisfied by the definition. However, this is the best one I have found yet and I have decided that I will put this in the magazine so everyone can read it.
The meaning of life is simply that, to "live". You were given a gift, whether it was from evolution or from God, you were born into this world, you have a time limit, you can do whatever you would like with that time.
Make it your own, create your memories, have your good times and the bad times. Find loved ones and create enemies. Is it up to the individual but the actual meaning of life is to just enjoy the gift you have been given anyway you can. It is the best gift you will ever receive, you may not be able to take it back or make it last forever, but you will enjoy it and find great use out of it. Many believe that "life" will given to you again when you lose it. And then it is up to the individual to make good use out of their gift again.
It takes many a life-threatening event to live life to it's fullest, doing what they always wanted to accomplish, and appreciating every single day, every single moment. Moments like, cooking your first meal, having your first kiss, getting a hug from a loved one. Or maybe being outside on a nice day. You choose what effects you in your gift of life and that is what is the most important. So think next time about what makes you appreciate life and instead of postponing things you want to accomplish do it now and make the most out of all the time you have. This was from Renee, who wrote it a long time ago... Thanks for sharing dear... <wink>
01.30.2000 - Is maybe the meaning of life, death? One lives their life to the fullest knowing that someday it is going to end. If we could live forever, why would I want to go to work today? I could always go tomorrow. By us having a guaranteed end of life, we are forced to take each day in, think about memories, living forever, all the memories would blend together, and if you forgot one you could simple go out and make another one. Maybe it is more than just death though, Martin Luther King lived a life. He is dead now, but in my mind his life lives on, because of his mark on history. What happens to others who didn't leave their mark in history, they are forgotten, their life truly has ended. Enough for now.
